One of the biggest hardcore punk bands of all time, Minor Threat was started in Washington, D.C. in 1980 by vocalist Ian MacKaye and drummer Jeff Nelson. Minor Threat’s one and only album, 1983’s Out of Step, achieved legendary status in the punk rock scene. The band was hugely influential in two of the most important ideologies to come from the punk scene. Minor Threat was a huge proponent of the DIY (Do-It-Yourself) method of producing music, something that MacKaye carried with him in the formation of Dischord Records. Additionally, the song “Straight Edge” spawned the straight edge movement, a lifestyle focusing on the abstaining from drugs, alcohol, or promiscuous sex. Minor Threat’s existence may have been only four short years, but they left a lasting impression on punk rock as a whole...Be sure to check out our collection of Minor Threat t-shirts.
